Rewind...

Okay, so i need to update....

We are doing well. We just got home on SUnday from the Jeep Safari in Moab. Matt signed me up for the ladies only trail and taught me how to drive the Jeep with all the fun gears and wheel lockers ect... We got some awesome pictures of a couple vehicles close to rolling and going down large obstacles. (i will post pictures later)

Also, last year we met an awesome family from Michigan. We exchanged addresses and mailed our pictures to eachother. Matt and i thought about them, but never made contact before heading out to Moab. On Thursday which was our first run we pulled up behind a red jeep and low and behold they had michigan plates!! It was our friends from last year!!! We talked and after riding the trail that day we all went out for dinner.

Savannah and Porter did awesome. 12 hour rides in the car three days in a row, Porrter had one small breakdown eachday from being tired, but both napped and did awesome!!! We slept in the trailer and both did well with that also! The only set back is that Porter got really wheezy and started caughing (darn Asthma!) which brought us home a day early. We are now in the process of getting it under control.

We celebrated Easter a week early with coloring eggs and doing egg hunts. The Easter bunny did however find Savannah and Porter in Moab with a basket of candy for each of them.

Matt talked with the Tooele army depot on Monday and it seems that his job application is still in the process. We are crossing our fingers on this job as it would be greast for our family....i guess we'll see.

Krista is still working full-time and training for the half marathon. I did do to well with training while in moab, but i did get one run in while there. I am running a 5K race this weekend with my friend Stacey.

Savannah is great. She is getting a little sassy these days and her favorite phrases are, "are you kidding me?" and "No way". We are working with her. SHe seems to think that chips are a meal and pixy sticks are dessert. WE are working on that too.

Porter is doing okay as well. We are trying to get his asthma under control with breathing treatments and such. He is getting better, if we go camping again the nebulizer will be coming with us. Otherwise he is trying to sit up and stand. I hope he isn't like Savannah and walking by 9 months....that was too fast!

We are all well and hope to find all of you the same! Watch for pictures!

rub a dub dub two kids in a tub!

The other night Savannah wanted to put Porter in the bathtub with her, so i filled up the infant tub and put it in with her! She loves helping give Porter a bath so putting him in the tub with her was really fun! I took pictures and luckily i got one i could post that would not be blackmail worthy later in life! (all parts that shouldn't be shown are cut off!) They are such cute kids!

the little pooper

Sorry about the graphic photos.... Typically in the morning after work i would go in and change Porter while his bottle warms up and then we both snuggle, he falls back asleep in my bed and i get a little rest too. So, the other morning i came home he was fussing so i went in and picked him up, put him on the changing table. Keep in mind the lights are still out. I take off his diaper and he peed all over so i start changing his clothes and cleaning up. The whoel time i keep thinking that something smells funny. I go to pick him up andnotice smears all over the changing table, then on his diaper...i look at my hand and there's poop on it too!!! It was everywhere. I was like no wonder it stinks! I was laughing so hard i had to get the camera. He had poop everywhere. On his head, back, clothes, etc...needless to say that mornign the sleeping wa put off and i had to give Porter a bath instead. I am a little nervous about when he gets older. If he can manage to make such a mess and not be able to take his diaper off....who knows what he'll do then! :)

Savannah's beuty routine...

Savannah has become more girl than ever. The other day i was in bed resting and she got into my deodorant. She put it on all over the front of her and in her armpits. She had also gotten the majority of my hairclips out and put them in her hair so she could be beutiful.
The next day i was cleaning up her clothes in the bathroom after her bath and found a panty liner stuck to her pants. When I asked her about it she told me it was just in case she "peeped" cuz she needed to keep her pants dry. (even though she had a pull up on!!) It cracked me up! I guess it just goes to show you that little kids really do pick up on everything!!!

Update

I just thought i would throw a little update into this blog. So, here it goes.

Matt is still looking for a job. He has had several interviews and is going through the hiring process for a job. We are keeping our fingers crossed that maybe this one will work out. He has been a geat house spouse or stay at home dad, whichever you want to call it. I have had fun watching how Savannah and him have been able to bond over the last year. She is actually more well behaved with Matt being home than she would have been if i was home.

I have been working everyday for the past week. They haven't all been 12 hour shifts, but they have all required me to stay up all night so i am in desperate need of good rest this weekend. Matt is always good to let me sleep. Savannah just likes to hang out in my room and watch movies with me...all the t.v. isn't good but i get my sleep and she gets to be with me so i figure it works out.

Savannah is still growing and is as smart as ever. Her new thing is to give her dad a big hug and tell me "i don't need a new daddy, i like this daddy!" In response i always tell her that it's good she doesn't want a new daddy cuz we aren't getting one. Then she runs over and gives me a hug and tells Matt, "i don't need a new mommy, i like this mommy!" She is so cute. The other day Matt and i were getting ready to go to the temple and Savannah asks, "are you going to the temple mom?" I said yes then she replied, "to get married?" I said yes....i though it was really neat that she made the connection that the temple is where we get married. She is still always getting dressed up for the ballet and prince charming is always waiting for her! She has also been such a great big sister.

Porter is just getting bigger and bigger. I wouldn't be surprised if he got the big, tall genes from both Matts family and mine (i know my dad isn't very tall, but his uncles and brother are!!). Porter was pushin 17 pounds at 3 1/2 months. He is so big i have also moved him from the 3-6 months size of clothes to 6-9 months. I am getting a little nervous about how quickly he is going through clothing sizes. Hopefully he will slow down or he'll be wearing two year old clothes at a year!!!! He is now laughing, smiling, and cooing at everyone. If there is a sports show on he watches it very intently. He is very social and loves it when Savannah plays peek a boo with him.

that is all for now!!

An update on the running. Last week I developed a nasty shin splint on my right leg. I have been icing it while at work by tying an ice pack to my shin. It has actually worked well. On Monday i was supposed to do a 6 mile run, but only went 3 because of it. I have been resting it since and will most likely attempt to go out again tomorrow to do my 6 mile run...i guess we'll see how far i get.

I have been doing a lot of research on supplements and have yet to find something that i would like to buy, so at this point i will just stick to my protein bar before my run and a multivitamin each day! If anyone has suggestions please let me know!

So, as many of you know I am training for a half marathon in June. Only 6 weeks after having Porter I started running/walking. At twelve weeks post partum I invested in some mizuno wave rider running shoes (by suggestion from my dad and by the way I love) and started strictly running 3-4 times a week. During this time I had some killer pain right down my back side and in my butt. It got so bad I asked my little brother who is studying to get into med school how i could fix it and even comtemplated going to a physical therapist for some help!! Long story short, he suggested I wear my orthotics and hip support (an elastic thing around the waist that helps my post pregnancy hips form moving too much!) which I was drastically trying not to be dependent on. I put them on to do a run and funny thing. It helped. Once I put in my orthotics in my shoes and wore the hip brace….the pain was gone! Crazy huh?

I am now officially 4 weeks into my 16 week training program. The farthest I have ever run was about 3 miles for a 5k at least 5 years ago! Last Monday I ran 6 miles. I was surprised, I thought for sure I would be sore, but I woke up and all was well!!! Now, if someone would have told me 5 years ago, even one year ago that I would be running 6 miles or for more than 30 minutes straight I would have just laughed!! It feels so good to be able to go much longer. Running has gotten easier as i have been training.

I have found several challenges during this time. One is staying adequately hydrated, and another is pacing myself, and an occasional pain here and there, and lastly eating well.

So, on the issue of staying hydrated…who doesn’t have a little caffeinated soda on the night shift? I seem to barely get enough water in me to survive so to add in running, and the night shift caffeine, I have found this a battle. I am going for no soda this week, but am sure I will need the caffeine- I might be a little addicted. TO this I must say thank goodness for Crystal Light with energy (the caffeinated crystal light) although I am sure the water I mix it with is pretty much canceled out by the caffeine. So I am at square one again trying to get enough water. Let me just say, I’m working on it!!

If my training plan says to run 3 miles at 17:00 mile I struggle to run that slow...I might as well be walking. I did some research and have found that running for the allotted time Is the way to go so I end up running for the total time in which it suggest (3 miles @ 17 minutes = 50 minutes) and my 3 mile run ends up being more like 4-5 miles. I guess the endurance is what I am going for right?

As for an occasional pain I haven’t had any pains that a little heat, ice and ibuprofen, and a day of rest won’t help. I’ll be thankful for that after hearing what Stacey, my high school friend who will be running with me, has gone through.

Another difficult thing for me now is my diet and trying to shed a few pounds while running. I am unsure as to why with all the running I have hit a plateau in my weight and have not been able to lose any weight. A good portion of it I am sure is the way I eat. I will be struggling with this for a while as I don’t have a regular schedule with working 3 nights of the week, and then trying to get in healthy snacks while at work is killer too. I also wonder if it isn’t related to something called PCOS which I was borderline having when I got pregnant with Porter. Somehow with PCOS your body breaks down carbs and other things differently than a normal persons so losing weight is hard even when you do eat right (which I am working on to!) I am borrowing a blood sugar machine for the next couple days to see if that couldn’t be a part of it!
I have also learned that I do not need to buy a jogging stroller because I am absolutely unable to push it up and down hills while I run with two toddlers in it!!! Yeah, I only did that once and never again!!!!

So there we are with my battles since starting training for this half marathon. I have found in these 4 short weeks that running is a mental game. No I am not mental for running, but that running is a mind over body game. I have to stay relaxed and tell myself I can do it, it’s no big deal. I find with this running is a breeze. The only problem is if I say I can’t or I tell myself I am tired it is so difficult to keep going! My mind is defiantly learning how to take over my body! It has been quite a thrill for me to see how far I can push myself and after each long run where I have increased my miles or the amount of time run increases I feel very accomplished.
